There were close to 400 girls signed up, 230 bids were given out. Some girls were released, some dropped after preference.

Not everyone gets a bid, but if you really go with your instinct about how you connect and would fit in with a chapter... You will most likely get a bid. Of course there are certain chapters that are more "popular" so if in preference you choose those ones, your chances will drop. On the other hand if you choose ones that you weren't very enthusiastic with just to get a bid, you probably won't get in either. Remember, there's another chance to get in mid way through the year! You miss formal recruitment and can join late :)

Not all of that 57 percent didn't get bids because they were dropped though. A lot of girls dropped out of recruitment themselves because at the different stages because they had their heart set on one or two chapters and weren't invited back by them. Also this years was the biggest recruitment in general, so more "competition". It's not always like that.

Very few people who go through recruitment, and fill out their rank sheets fully, don't get bids. The fact the only 230 bids were given out even though 400 people registered for recruitment is a miss leading number. Many of the people who didn't get bids are girls who decided to drop out or didn't show up at all. The other reason why this number is miss leading is because if girls single intentional preference (or do not fully fill out their forms) they are less likely to receive a bid (or get invited back to the next round). By not completing their forms correctly they limit their options which means they are more likely to get invited to the next round. Although single intentional preferencing is discourage many people who go though recruitment still do this. The number of people who go through recruitment with good intention and fully complete all the forms who get dropped is very small.
The number of bids has nothing to do with more "competition", because of higher registration numbers, but rather the number of bids that each chapter is suppose to give out is dependant upon the number of girls who go to preference.

If you go through formal recruitment with an open mind and keep all your options open the chances of not getting a bid is very slim.

then how does it work with getting cut? I know you're suppose to rank the sororities you felt a great connection with. For me, the sororities that I felt connections in didn't invite me back...

This would have most likely been due to not having mutual selection. Each chapter has a number that they need to invite back to the next round and the people who will preferentially get invited back are people who selected that chapter high, and that chapter also really wanted them to come back.
The connection needs to be mutual between the person going through recruitment and the chapter. Sometimes what happens is there may be great personal connection between a recruiter and a pnm but the recruiter needs to keep in mind how well someone will fit into their chapter as a whole.
I'm wondering because you said that the chapters you felt a connection with didn't invite you back, does that mean you were invited back to some chapters? If you were invited back to some chapters did you give them a chance, or pull yourself from recruitment?

Guysss!!! Do spring recruitment! So much less stressful, way more personal and honestly although it’s not the same as formal with all the events and excitement, if a strat reaches out to you or you show interest consistently in them spring recruitment givesy a chance to get to know a strat throughout the year leading up to it or to have a less stressful more calm way to meet specific chapters of your choice. I didn’t do fall recruitment, did spring cause I kept in contact with a strat and immeditaly got a bid the next day! It’s rewarding, relaxing and a good opportunity!
