incoming sauder masters student wants to know about

by: GradGDI

Hi folks! So, I'm going into my Masters at Sauder. I'd love to know if there are any greek houses for students older than 18-22?

I think a lot of us going into grad school/law school who are between 24 and 30 have careers now, are grinding for those careers every day, but are still very much attracted to the idea of brotherhood, and a group of guys who we can grow and become more with.

I'm not super into the party culture/drinking culture side of greekland, but I do think the brotherhood side would be nice, especially since i'm coming from Toronto to a totally new City where I don't have a tonne of people that I've known for like ever.

If there is any part, or if you have alternative suggestions what would give me the same brotherhood needs, I'd appreciate it greatly.

Frats taking in graduate students is not unheard of here. You might want to message about it.

Go out there and rush. The worst thing you’ll hear is a no.

There aren't frat houses specifically for people older than 18-22. Sometimes guys who go straight into their masters after finishing undergrad will still be involved with their fraternity, but even then they're 23-24 at best for the most part everyone is in the 18-22 age range. Especially the guys that live in the frat houses who tend to be in second or third year. And all frats do exchanges with sororities where the girls are also in that age range, and houses frequently have parties where everyone will be 18-20 as the parties tend to skew even younger.

There are lots of different ways to meet people and make friends when doing a masters that would be a better fit for you. Sauder especially does lots of networking events etc and you will be spending a lot of time with your classmates working on projects. There is also an MBA society and a graduate student association.
