love my sorority and bf

by:

I just joined a sorority and I love it. I have a high school boyfriend (we have been together almost 3 years, he isn't at UBC) and we are fighting constantly. He hates me going to exchanges and parties (says he trusts me but not them). I just feel Im losing interest in him but Im scared to pull the plug. He told me not to join as he knew this would happen. Thoughts?

I know it's scary but I would pull the plug. You are your own person outside of your relationship, and its not fair of your boyfriend to blame his own insecurities on you being in a sorority/having a fun social life. Also the fact that he's blaming arguments on you joining instead of jsut respecting your choice in the first place is not okay at all.

I’m first year I joined a sorority while having a high school boyfriend of 3 years (not at ubc either), and while he doesn’t love frat parties he has no problem with me attending as long as I let him know I’m safe. That’s his biggest worry - safety and communication. Your boyfriend needs to either step back and support you in what you choose to do or he needs to face the music. It’s completely manipulative and unfair to try and stop you from joining because that’s what he wants. I’d say if he’s acting so childish it may be time to pull the plug :(

Thank u everyone replying. Your messages are making me think more clearly and they are things I already knew, just needed reassurance. I have never given him reason not to trust me. Scared but I know this isn't fair to me. Thank u thank u greek community.

Joining a sorority and having a GDI high school boyfriend never works even if you have the greatest relationship. Everyone does so much growing and trying to figure yourself out between 18 and 22. Not trying to be mean but stating the facts. Maybe works out in 1 % thats it. You seem like a cool girl, good luck.
