national reputation
by: questionI was going through the discussions and saw the one about national reputations. I've done some research on this on my own and seems KKG, DG, AOPi, APhi have lots of chapters and are more known on a national scale across Canada and the US. By looking at this site it seems that two from the list are not so popular at UBC though. What are the benefits of being in nationally popular sororities? Why are the other two not that popular at UBC? especially AOPi, I know some people in Ontario schools and have heard that they dominate there

AOPi definitely has potential. They are new but have been stepping it up this year, and doing a good job at it. They are known to have the largest number of chapters nationally which might explain their popularity. KKG/DG also have great national reputations. APhi has been at UBC forever but they still remain at the bottom and that might be because of poor sisterhood they had in the past, heard a lot of girls dropped previously. As for the benefits of being in a popular national sorority to be honest I'm not sure but it might be a greater alumni network and more people outside the greek system knowing about your organization.

National rep doesn't really matter unless you plan on travelling to multiple different chapters so I would say just choose the one with a good reputation at the specific school you want to attend for the best experience because that's where's you'll be spending 99% of your time!

National rankings for the sororities are on Newsweek. Across the globe Delta Gamma, Kappa, and ADPI made it into the top five sororities world wide... pretty impressive we have all three of them at UBC! :) The Number one rated sorority across the world is Zeta Tau Alpha which UBC doesn't have but any of the other three are a good fit nationally! Omicron, Alpha Phi, and Theta are rated 9th 10th and 11th, so with almost any sorority at UBC you will have a great national rep! don't fret it. Realistically though join your fit that works best for the school because most people utilize their membership the most within the campus.

Honestly all the sororities are ranked quite highly and UBC in general has a very good Greek presence at least in Canada. During rush keep an open mind because it doesn’t really matter as long as you click with your sorority especially since you’ll be spending your 4 years with the particular chapter you join regardless of how it’s ranked nationally. Other than that, if you’re really curious ask them during recruitment I’m sure they’d be more than happy to answer (or check their official website for alum stats)
