Girls can be catty, yes. But they're all separated by sororities, so why do they care to argue with people they don't have to deal with?
It boils down to the other half of Greek life, the guys. Who do guys praise in the greek system? Top sororities, it's blatantly obvious.
Let's be real. What girl wouldn't want to go to a frat semi/formal?
But who do these men aim to exclusively take on their events? High "ranked" sororities, because they care about the status of the girl they're bringing as a date, because UBC's Greek system is that shallow. "Yeah dude, I'm bringing a Kappa/Gamma Phi/DG to semi" it's for the bragging rights, it's for their own personal status.
Because let's face it, guys control the social scene of the Greek system. It's not their fault, it's mostly since sororities can't throw parties, predrinks, etc.
Girls have to work to be included. It's unequal. So when you ladies go on here and say stuff like "oh theta lives on GR they're so ____ stop self ranking" or stuff of that sort, it just brings your fellow ladies down, when it's truly guys that cause the problem.

In my experience, girls absolutely do care about girls in other Sororities and I GUARANTEE you the majority of comments on here are posted by sorority girls. You can tell by the tone and content.
Also, the tiers that each sorority is in originally stemmed from recruitment rankings, which only sorority girls know. The best sororities are the ones that do the best in recruitment - and also are the prettiest, bc recruitment is shallow. That’s why a sorority like AGD (who just won top sorority and a bunch of awards) isn’t known as “top” by frats/other sororitys because they don’t have the looks that Kappa (for example) does which = PNM’s don’t list them highly in recruitment AND frats not seeing them as top. It all feeds into itself.

Even if in the long run deep down they know they’d be happier in a different sorority the structure of recruitment meansyou get caught up in the shallowness of it all and the first impressions that don’t really accurately reflect where you’d really fit in. It favours sororities that are prettier and girls feel rejected if they get cut from them

There's just a certain vibe that top sororities give off, you can tell as soon as you walk in the room everyone is really pretty and confident and put together and girls pick up on that when they go through, and then rank them higher

Tbh it’s more about what girls think. All you have to do is look at formal recruitment. Girls are VERY aware of which sororities are top basically just based on looks. Like you walk into Kappa and see a bunch of girls that look like models or into Theta/AOII where the girls are all socially awkward and...very far from models and is it really surprising which one they want to be in?
