is getting cut early during rush common ?

my friend rushed during formal recruitment & only one sorority asked her back (which was her last pick) and i was wondering if this was a common thing or if she just didn't make a good impression? I'm thinking of rushing next year but it sounds like it could be a waste of time

It happens, but it's not super common (especially for invitationals, if it happens in pref round it's a bit more common). Some sororities will automatically cut you if you don't meet their grade threshold so that also could have been it. But yeah, maybe she didn't make the best of the 20 minutes she got to chat to the girls and that happens too. I wouldn't let this deter you from going through recruitment.
Also getting invited back to any sorority is a privilege, that's important to keep in mind.
