theta and aphi
by: CuriousGoing into first year, and I have friends in both APhi and Theta. I think I'd fit in better with a middle tier sorority b/c top tier ones sound pretty intense, but is there a big difference between the two?

Hey girlie,
I'm in one of the so called "top tier sororities" mentioned on this website, and have loads of friends in both Theta and APhi. Rankings DO NOT MATTER. I cannot remember a time where they mattered. No one is like "oh shes a ___ im not hanging out with her" "because you're in _____ and we're a top tier sorority, you have to do _____" like it doesn't work like that. Trust me when I say go in with an open mind and make up your own decision on each chapter. Don't listen to greek rank :)

Agree with what someone else said, rankings don't matter :) You should go through recruitment and see who you vibe with!
Both Theta and APhi are well liked and get along with pretty much everyone else in the Greek system, you will find awesome girls in both. The only difference I can think of is that Theta is a bit more strict on grades...their philanthropy events are both fun (as a girl in a diff sorority who has been to both) and as I also have friends in both they have pretty tight sisterhoods.
This is NOT meant to say that "top tier" chapters don't also have those things (as someone who is supposedly in one of them :P)

APhi and Theta are alike in a lot of way but APhi arguably has stronger social relations with frats and is slightly more invovled but Thetas are laidback and chill. Both have their unique strengths and great girls!
Honestly though, please please please don't let this sight give you a negative image of other sororities. Go through recruitment with an open mind and join wherever you feel most at home! Good luck with rush, we're all so excited to meet all the new girls coming through this year!!

Hey girl! I'm in one of those sororities so I'm glad to hear you're interested. :)
I couldn't agree more with what everyone else said: go into rush with an open mind and trust in the system. Choose whichever one you feel more at home at and felt more of a connection to, whether that's APhi or Theta or another sorority entirely.
There are definitely a lot of similarities, but yes, APhi tends to be a little more social while Theta is more academic and involved around campus, but Theta is also social and vice versa. Both have great sisterhoods, so you can't really go wrong with either.
We can't wait to meet you!

I would the two chapters are equally involved around campus. There was a Theta that was super involved in student gov last year, but there were APhis who were really involved with the Ubyssey, AUS/AMS etc. Both are solid on the involvement front.
In terms of academics, Theta usually tends to be stronger, and APhi more social w/ going out, strong showing at Greek events, good frat relations etc.
BOTH have great sisterhoods and kind people :)
