time commitment?
by: curiousI know a lot of people say you get what you put into it, but are there fines for not attending things? And are socials/mixers all mandatory?
#2by: Hm
I can only speak for my own sorority but when it comes to thinks that are mandatory if you have a legitimate excuse you can submit an absence and be excused without punishment or fine or anything like that. When it comes to socials and mixers I assume you mean exchange for the most part and those aren't mandatory

For my chapter you only get fined if you miss important events like initiation, recruitment, sisterhood events etc. IF you don't let an advisor know ahead of time your reason for missing. As long as you send an email saying you have work, an exam, medical emergency etc. then it's fine but if you just skip important stuff without saying anything then you get fined.
Exchanges with fraternities you're not required to go to at all if you don't want to.

As someone else mentioned, joining a sorority is not worth it if you won't be able to make it to events.
There are 1 hour chapter meetings every week, exchanges with fraternities, philanthropy events for your own chapter and other sororities/fraternities, volunteering, traditional events like big/little reveal and initiation, fun things like Songfest, study hours, semi/formal, extra meetings if you take on a leadership position, etc. etc.
You can have an amazing experience if you participate fully in all of those, but it's a lot of money and commitment if you don't. And also, chapters are looking for women who will be involved and active members.
