@older sorority girls

by:

It seems like every girl in their first or second year is really into sorority life and attending all the events, but then get tired of it all by their last year. Does anyone else feel this way and why? I want my sorority membership to be awesome the whole time I'm at university, not just half of it, but it seems like it becomes less important to people as they get older

I'm going into my last year in my sorority and I think it can go one of two ways. Either you totally stop caring about it as you get older and just go to events out of a sense of obligation - and this can be for a lot of reasons, for example some girls have really heavy course loads in their last years, some are trying to go to law/med school and really have to focus on that.

I will say that going on co-op or exchange can really make girls lose touch with their chapter, especially if they're gone for a full year because by the time you come back you don't even know any of the new members.

The other way it can go is that it just becomes more meaningful to you as time passes - the traditions and rituals and ceremonies that you thought were silly as a new member become really special to you. I think the more time you put into your sorority, the more you will get out of it and the bigger a part of your life it will be in upper years and after graduation.

if you go on exchange for a year, do you still have to pay the sorority membership fees for that year?

Like a way way smaller amount like if dues are a thousand something then it should be like $60ish when you're on exchange

Nothing changes unless you change, a lot of senior members get over it just because you're maturing, the more you get involved the less likely that will happen

I think it just depends on how busy you get in upper years, like if you're in fourth year engineering you obviously can't come to every sorority event

there are girls who just graduated from my sorority, but they've always been very involved in the chapter and with younger members. It really depends on the person I've found that members who hold officer positions tend to enjoy their time until the very end
