tiers

Are the tiers as important as they are in the states? I come from a state that has clear differences between the tiers and I was wondering if it's the same

Yes and no. There are fraternities that will get the attention of more girls, be better at sport, throw better parties etc and they will be top tier. higher tier sororities will have better philanthropies and so on.

Saying that brotherhood/sisterhood is the number one thing and that you should care about, and if you don't fit in an organization don't force yourself into it. If you're torn between two organizations then I think it is ok to see who has the better reputation in campus ("higher tier")

Anyways, I don't think there's too much of a difference between tiers in UBC, as there will be an exchange between every fraternity and sorority. You will have fun in every single on of the fraternities/sororities, and consider yourself lucky if you get into anyone of them.

tiers sort of matter as i'd say socially you have better access to stuff in an upper tier. but at the end of the day unfortunately you cannot force yourself to fit into an organization you were not meant to be in so you may as well go where makes you happy. if you were meant to be close with a certain frat you will make friends there regardless of your tier.

There's not that much difference between top and middle tiers but top tiers do have a bit stronger fraternity relations. There's a pretty big difference between middle and bottom, but as other people said what really matters is where you fit in the best and are the happiest.

It can actually be better for some girls to get into "lower" tier sororities (and I use that term loosely b/c it really doesn't mean much at UBC) where they can be SUPER involved and make a big change in their chapter than it would be for them to join a top tier where they wouldn't stand out or get as much of a voice - all depends on your personality
