should i join the greek system next year?

by:

Hi,
I'm a grade 12 student graduating Highschool this year and attending UBC in the fall. What are some pros and cons of joining a sorority here ? Would we really gain anything valuable?
based on my personality , I thought I would fit In really well in the Greek system. I Def was that type of girl in highschool. But I'm starting to wonder whether I should get away from those catty Highschool-like environments in university , and become more mature ? Stop partying and experience things for future job opportunities ? , I'm trying to plan my future path right now. Thoughts/opinions/advice ? :) thanks

I'm graduating from my sorority this year and can say from my pledge class there are catty party hoes, philanthropy ppl, former members of exec and people who did absolutely nothing. Your experience is dependent on what you want to do. If you wanna go to every exchange, do it. If you wanna apply for exec and go to international conventions (usually for free) do it. No one girl will have the same experience, it's entirely what you make of it.

Sororities have like 100+ girls in them. You don't have to be "one of those girls to join". What they'll look at when you go through recruitment is whether you have good grades, whether you're involved in leadership and volunteer opportunities, and whether you are put together and can hold a conversation.

Joining a sorority is actually one of the best things you can do to mature, because there'll be older girls who'll hold you to higher standards, it will help you network and open you up to future career opportunities, and it's DEFINITELY not all about partying. You can be that girl that spends all of her time at the frats if you want, but that's not what the other women in your sorority are there for and it won't gain you a ton of respect in the long run.

Yeah I worded that badly, I didn't mean there was anything wrong with hanging out at the frats especially when you have close friends in them but I more meant that that's not the only thing sororities are looking for and that not every girl (or guy!) in the Greek system is only there to party, which is a stereotype I think a lot of high schoolers have going into it
