joining a sorority if you don't live on campus

by:

i dont live on campus and was wondering if I should bother joining a sorority? I don't want to wait hours and hours for meetings when I don't have any place to go other than the library? I'd be driving home so is there drinking involved too? I would hate to be the awkward sober one...

It's all the better to join if you dont live on campus! It's a really easy way to meet people and so many of the girls live off campus too. There's always a sister who will let you crash on her couch if need be, but there's no harm in forgoing the drinking if you need to get home. It's never mandatory to drink and no one will pressure you if you have to drive! Even if you're apprehensive, go in for recruitment and see how you feel! I guarantee you you won't regret it.

Hey SO many girls I know join sororities in their first year for the very reason that they live off campus and are commuting! It's easier to make friends if you live in first year residence because there are so many people your own age that you're living with, while those who commute often have difficulty meeting people/making close friends/feeling connected to campus. Joining a sorority is an awesome way to combat that! You have an amazing community to turn to, a chapter room to hang out and study and make food in after classes, and there will always be girls to study with, get coffee with, and walk to meetings with if you ever need to stay late :)

Drinking is 100% optional, you're not allowed to drink at all in your chapter room/in your letters and most people only do it at the frats

The above commenters basically answered your question, but I'll add that joining a sorority gives you the added bonus of using the chapter room as a spot to hang out between classes while you wait for meetings! It's like your own living room on campus :)
