sorority fees payment plans

by: Elle

So idk if the fees are the same for all sororities at UBC, but I'm really interested in joining and was kind of worried about the fees- is there some sort of monthly or bimonthly plan and how much do you pay on that basis ?

Sororities have payment plans and you can pay annually, semi annually or monthly. Expect dues to be around $1000-$1500 a year

it depends on the chapter! my dues are waaaay lower than that. also you can have payment plans if you cant afford all at once so you should go through recruitment for sure! you can always figure it out later :)

Expect dues to be between $1300-1500 in your first year. This will go down to about $1000 in your second year and each year after that.

Depending on the sorority, you will also need to spend money on things like philanthropy events and clothing (you need a white dress for initiation, certain outfits for mandatory events etc.).

Many people pay their dues bi-annually (aka at the start of each semester). However, if you demonstrate financial need and get it approved you can pay your dues on a monthly basis.

You will also get fined for missing mandatory events, paying fees late etc.

Not to paint a bad picture but just so you're aware of the reality - it's expensive and you need to be prepared for it

So on top of the dues that are collected , what would be a ballpark estimate of all the other costs that are incurred over one year?

Some sororities (kappa, gamma phi) have dues that are significantly higher than others.

With all the hazing, making half their pledge classes annually drop, etc., there's no doubt that kappa and gamma phi cost more. The only reason this post has 3 down votes is because kappa and gamma phi own gr.

Sorority dues are expensive and most girls come from well off backgrounds with parents supporting them financially. If you can afford paying more money on top of tuition, books, and housing then joining a sorority is definitely worth it.

to provide an estimate, my sorority has a monthly payment plan where the cost is divided between the 8 school year months (Sept- April) . But the monthly fee adds an interest of ~5-10% to the cost. So its actually cheaper paying annually but if you don't have money saved up there are monthly options.
