Love greek life at UBC, its like being part of some secret society everyone knows about but you have inside knowledge off. More girls than boys, but thats too be expected. Hazing is normal, girls can't do it but boys keep it light. More competitive as it is selective but if you want to be part of it, you will find somewhere you fit.

There are 10 frats and 8 sororities, but the sororities are much bigger than the fraternities with all of them having over 100 members. About 450 girls go through recruitment each year and about half of them get bids. There's always parties going on whether it's exchanges on Wednesdays, frat parties on the weekends, or the Bims bus. Definitely not as big as the States but more tight knit. Lots of Greeks are involved in student government and clubs. Sororities don't haze at all (their Panhellenic is very strict) but fraternities do, nothing crazy though just some minor stuff.

The greek system at ubc is a ton of fun and you can get a lot out of it. There are 10 fraternities and 8 sororities, 9 of the frats have houses it would be awesome if the girls did as well. Hazing and competitiveness is not as intense as the states. (no sororities haze at ubc). Social scene is very good, especially having access to bars and clubs where frats can have events there as well as their houses. The greek village has a great party atmosphere especially when its nice enough to party outside. the houses here have a lot of success with their philanthropies (DKE raised 40k for cancer this year). Although the greek system is small compared to the student body the size works well because its a large community with a lot to offer but at the same time your whole uni career doesn’t have to revolve around it.
