If the planned shutdown happens, who will get the former SigEp house? Will the school make it a sorority?

Why would they shut them down? Did they violate probation or is it a witch hunt?

Both apparently

Check the Purdue subreddit. They are currently spreading an online petition for people to sign. Apparently they're getting the boot.

I like the SigEps that I know and want to support them but I first need to understand what they are NOW being accused of that the university wants to shut them down before I sign a petition. If it's a witch hunt or overreaction to a minor infraction I've got their back but SigEp you need to let people know what's going on.

The vultures are circling too soon. SigEp is still alive and kicking.

Cowards pulled down the petition. Here's the text.

"This petition is in support of the continued presence of Sigma Phi Epsilon, Indiana Alpha chapter on Purdue University's campus and to oppose the active movement to no longer recognize our chapter as a student organization. This planned action by the university would eradicate one of the oldest, most history rich SigEp chapters in the nation and the only fraternity on Purdue's campus that has never closed its doors. Through your help we can prevent the displacement of some of the brightest and most well rounded men Purdue has to offer and allow for the future development of Balanced Men."

"one of the oldest, most history rich"

But not all of the history is good. When did this chapter first initiate a African-American brother?

You criticize them for making a petition, then for taking it down. Sounds like you're just trying to hate on SigEp. Truth is you've probably had no experiences with the new SigEp so you have no real reason to like them or dislike them

The national fraternity staff and FSCL partner with the IFC to ensure student life-safety and to teach accountability. Any violation of probation, including the specific restrictions meant to prevent behavioral lapses that endanger the success of the chapter, will be met with more serve consequences. When a chapter cannot or will not self-govern, staff and administrators must take action, including membership review and charter action, to secure the future of a healthy, safe, and values-based Greek Life.

It's not fair to make an entire active chapter and decades of alumni suffer because of a couple of rogue members drank in the house. Kick them out, not the whole chapter. The rest of Sig Ep has followed the rules and have had no issues. They are good guys - more so than other houses on campus.

Good point. Question then is - did the chapter leadership expel the "rogue brothers" before the violation of probation came to the attention of Cutler's staff and SigEp national staff, or afterwards only in a defensive groupthinkreaction, or maybe not yet?

From what I heard, the rogues were super seniors, and in a chapter with a junior president, it's understandable that they weren't expelled so easily

The behavioral problems, risk management incidents, and lack of discipline, confirmed the concern that the chapter’s culture was misaligned with the Fraternity’s expectations and values. The lack of accountability, unwillingness of chapter leaders to meet Fraternity and University policies, and hesitancy of undergraduate members to accept continued support from alumni-volunteers were continuing themes within the chapter. The unwillingness of the undergraduate executive board to improve chapter policies and operations on its own accord and the failure of chapter leaders to enforce its own membership agreement speak to mindset and intentions of some members of the chapter.

Are you Dean Cutler? Because seriously dude, that's a little heavy for someone who doesn't truly know what's going on. You seem awfully close and critical to the situation.

"Jeffery Stefancic, associate dean of students, said the fraternity could have easily been deactivated as a student organization due to the severity of the allegations. But Stefancic and James Hintz, associate dean of students, were influenced by the national Sigma Phi Epsilon organization.

“Part of that decision to let them operate as a recognized organization was the willingness of the national Sig Ep office to change that culture,” Stefancic said.

If nationals supports the chapter, then they don't need the school or Cutler. Go underground out in the open for everyone to see. Could be a movement. Make Purdue Great Again.

The alumni in charge of the IN-Alpha chapter has given up on Sigep. They have even started removing furniture and stuff from the house. To answer some questions,
-The new members could rush new houses if they so choose
-The alumni are no longer doing anything for the house, and are threatening to evict the current living brothers.
-Rogue brothers cant be expelled, because they already have graduated. Their last semester was Fall 2015, which makes the situation even more infuriating
