you should talk to the girls around you while you wait in line before pref parties. can you talk to the girls easily? do they seem like some of your friends that you already have? could you see some of those girls potentially being in your pledge class?
those are some questions you should ponder tomorrow.
criticize is as much as you want, but the process works. hundreds of greek women can back that.

Keep in mind that each house has more girls coming to pref than they can give a bid to. Please dont judge a house by the other PNMs you see at their pref party unless you find out the PNMs are preffing the same houses as you (i highly doubt it btw) I really didbt care for some of the girls standing outside the house I listed 1st. It ALMOST swayed my pref order. Thank goodness it didnt! Those I didnt care for ended up joining elsewhere. The girls I liked ended up pledging with me. The house knew exactly who would fit in. Trust yourself and your feelings of the girls in the house.

not being defensive, just stating a fact. if you have a problem with the way the process is, apply for panhellenic and try to get something changed.
