rushing as a sophomore

by: Freshman

I didn't go through sorority recruitment this past year as a freshman and was wondering if it's hard to join a good house as a sophomore? I know its competitive already but will top houses cut you for being a sophomore?

going through recruitment as a sophomore you can still get into the top houses, I know aphi and pi phi will take about 5 a year. However, it is a little more difficult.

Top houses are least likely to take sophomores. Why should they? Plenty of freshman who have great potential and will be members for 4 years as opposed to a sophomore who will only be a member for 3 years. The average pledge class is about 40, so no way will Aphi or PiPhi give over 10% of their bids to sophomores. They might take 1 or 2. You should have COB'd in the spring when you stood a better chance.

Yes, you can definitely join as a sophomore but it is a little harder. Really focus on preparing for recruitment this summer because you're looked at a little differently than freshman. Prepare to explain why you chose to rush as a sophomore because every single house will probably ask during open houses.

You're less likely to join a top house, but this isn't always bad because sisterhoods in the top houses are not always as strong as others (glitter and glue). You can definitely get into a top middle tier house as a sophomore.

Depends on the sorority's minimum GPA requirement for sophomores, it is much harder because they raise the GPA for ya'll and the freshmen have to have a certain GPA to even get into Purdue so they don't get cut for not meeting the minimum. It also comes down to their live in quota and live in requirements, if you are required to live in all 4 years or even 3 years sometimes they don't look at sophomores that hard. A lot of houses do tho so just try out, it couldn't hurt.

Go through formal to meet houses. If the house you're dead set on drops you keep going. If at some point you just hate all the houses asking you back, drop and do COB. It's a lot more chill and you get better conversations out of it.
