Spring rush as a Sophomore
by: Purdue 2025Any advice for rushing in the spring as a sophomore ? I went to some events this fall at houses like zbt dsig and delts and didn’t end up getting a bid there. I don’t know if I should look at lower houses or take the semester to work on myself and try again with different houses

I would never say “go lower,” but go where you feel you fit in. It’s a 2 way street. That being said, if you want to establish yourself at any house in the spring, join some clubs; pick up some hobbies; perhaps get a part time job. Have some talking points about yourself when you’re going to these houses in the spring

Move on from any house that didn't give you a bid if you went to 2 functions. You may need to explore the lower tiered houses. It is harder to get a bid from a top house without having connections. I personally wouldn't pick the 3 houses you listed, but that is why you search for the house YOU fit best with. Almost every house has cool guys to hang out with and a few not so impressive. We can just hide the losers behind our letters easier.

I felt like I fit in at the houses I went to, but didn’t stand out a lot. I don’t really know a lot of guys in greek life here except for a couple guys in houses I previously rushed, one where I declined a bid fall freshman and this semester where I didn’t get a bid

I went to 3 at zbt, the final 2 delts events and 4 for dsig. I went to one phi psi one too

probably check out different houses then.
maybe less party focused places like SNU, Phi Delt, KDR, Crows

I might go to phi psi again because I went to 1 event late in rush and check out a mix of houses like kdr sae and theta chi. I don’t have any interest in crows or SNU the people I know there are pretty out there and not my vibe. I would rather be in a house more focused on social and philanthropy then a lowkey house.

Yeah I think the only thing I could really improve on is making connections with people on houses and doing a better job of making eye contact to make myself seem more confident then last semester. Have a class with some dudes in sae might try to talk to them

i’m in a house and have helped w rush for a few semesters. i’d say houses are lookin for red flags like if all u wanna do is party, saying anything creepy, etc. (you’re true self will be exposed during pledgeship). if you don’t have connections in the house u gotta make a good impression on someone so that they’d actually wanna speak up and say something good abt u when everyone talks after the event
also i’d prolly avoid this website bc the only people that come on here are people looking for entertainment and people that aren’t happy w the house they’re in

100%. I think the thing is I didn’t stand out enough and as a sophomore you have to. I don’t want to join for only parties and I always do whatever I can to be respectful toward girls because a lot of people in my family have dealt with sa. I think the main thing is standing out in terms of confidence, clothes I wear, etc. At the end of the day rush is superficial and you only get 1 first impression

That’s kinda my plan get involved in some clubs, keep working out this semester and continue being social meeting meeting new people. The only thing that someone else is having friends in the house.
