Diverse or not?

by: Seriously

I have heard that Greeks at Purdue are not exactly a diverse group. I am biracial and was warned not to go through recruitment because I would not go far since I'm not white. But I do want to give it a try because my mom was in a sorority here and my dad is a proud Purdue alum and former collegiate athlete. Should I try, or would I be wasting my time?

Let's be honest. Indiana is where the KKK was started. Greek life isn't exactly the most enlightened part of academia. Give it a try, but be prepared for the worst.

Many sororities have a handful of minority members. It's a much smaller percentage than it should be, but that's the way it is. I agree that you should give it a try, but be realistic. Racism is alive and well at Purdue.

Never let fear or rumors stop you from trying something you’re interested in. Really, there is some diversity in just about every house I’ve encountered. Give it a shot, and if it’s not for you at least you tried. Better than never knowing.

I’m a mixed girl in Greek like and even though it’s harder for us, I love it. The girls in my house have made a conscious effort to better themselves. I don’t recommend Aphi, KD, Tri Delt, DZ, ZTA, or KKG. These are the ones I’ve heard that have had race scandals. The rest seem to be fine

well diversity will never improve if POC are afraid to rush…I’m a dark-skinned woc in a top house, i say go for it and rush with the attitude that you are just as beautiful and would fit in just as well as every other girl rushing. i have never felt like i was treated differently based on my skin tone by my sorority, and very few times by frats. the opinions of a few frat boys are irrelevant to me tho, and the benefit of a good sisterhood really outweighs that.
