Sorority alum here with some advice for PNMs

by:

Hi everyone - I hope you’re enjoying your first few weeks at Purdue. Live it up and soak it all in, it’s amazing!

I wanted to drop in and provide some advice to the girls rushing sororities this fall. As someone who was in a “top house” a few years ago, I can tell you that rankings, and who’s in what house, don’t matter. I’ve made lifelong friends in my sorority AND other sororities that will be in my wedding this year. In fact, my best friends from Purdue come from SIX different sororities. Some that I was friends with before graduating, and some that I became close to after college.

Once you become a junior/senior, the Greek community becomes even more united, and lines become blurred of who’s in what sorority. It will seem so important freshman year, but remember to choose the place you feel at home in and that you are not defined by stereotypes or rankings.

Once everyone can go to the bars, frat pairings don’t even matter anymore ;)

And as someone who’s several years out of school, nobody even talks about houses. We are one big friend group of Purdue Greeks (and non Greeks!) - several sorority and fraternity members combined at each other’s weddings and as each other’s roommates in the real world. Looking back, I could have joined any of the sororities and made great friends and memories all the same.

Greek life at Purdue is special, so try not to succumb to the toxicity and bad mindsets that some people encourage. Enjoy yourselves and know that you will be happy and make friends in whatever house you join!

Well said! All are great houses with gorgeous girls inside and out! That is the great thing about Purdue versus other sorority life at other schools. You do become friends with other sororities and it is one big happy family!
