Social media.....…

by: Hi

So I’m thinking of rushing in the spring! Was going to this fall but I’m planning on doing online classes only right now so I figure I’ll wait until it’s hopefully not virtual by then. I have a question because someone I know who went to purdue told me she was required to follow all of her sorority sisters on IG and not allowed to unfollow them until she was graduated and apparently someone in her sorority got kicked out for breaking that rule? Lol Not that this affects my decision to rush but it’s just something I’d kinda like to know going into it. Like is that really a thing? Do all sororities care about that or just some? I’ve just never heard of that before so I was wanting to confirm this

i mean it’s not required but it’s def a little weird if you don’t care what ur sisters are doing lol

yeah that’s true. I personally wouldn’t do it, like it just seems petty to unfollow someone in ur sorority anyways. Just thought it seemed kind of extreme/strict to be kicked out for unfollowing someone on social media unless it was someone on the exec board. Idk the details of the situation.

What if girls dont have instagrams? Do houses automatically kick them off because they cant completely see what the PNM looks like?

If a PNM doesn’t have social media they will not be automatically dropped from houses during rush. It would definitely help to have social media during virtual rush so that houses can learn more about you and see what your interests are but it won’t significantly hurt you or get you dropped from houses during rush if you don’t have social media.

even during normal rush there’s really not much of a way to get to know pnms, so some houses use social media to better judge a candidate. some even go through the effort of finding you before and prescoring you to get a good image of who they want to invite back from open house before recruitment even starts

but like it’s definitely not an automatic drop, just a bit of a disadvantage for a few houses
