by:

Rushing in a couple weeks, just curious how big of a determining factor are rec letters/ legacy statuses in the more competitive houses.

it’s not that important but can help you if you really like the house you’re a legacy at because most houses have clauses that a legacy automatically advances past open house then if they make it to pref will automatically receive a bid BUT if you aren’t a legacy it’s not much harder to receive a bid from a house

The way that the bidding system works is that if you make it to pref you automatically get a bid and this is for both legacies and non legacies for that house. Don’t worry about not getting a bid from any house that you pref at. What you need to know is that what list houses put you on is important. Some people try to rank the house they want the most as what list they think the house will put them on. First list is the girls that the house wants the most 2nd list is middle and 3rd list is last. Assume after pref you ranked apple chi pie first and delta oops salon 2nd but apple chi pie put you on their 2nd list and delta oops salon put you on their first list. You’ll get a bid from delta oops salon because they wanted you more. Hope this helps

How do houses fact check high school involvement/ parent legacy from other unis?
Or do they really not.

To be a legacy doesn’t ur parent or relative have to be alum at the same uni? In the same chapter?

High school involvement on your rush profile is really just a way for sororities to get to know PNMs before meeting them and to pair people with similar ppl in every round. It won’t hinder you or give you any kind of advantage. For legacy/recommendations, the woman who wrote mine had to log into her alumni portal in order to send it to the chapter so it’s basically fact checked through the system. Also, legacy varies per sorority so be sure to check before asking your aunt or cousin to submit something bc it might not even count. Some sororities only count sister, mom, or grandma.

Also, legacies can be from any university and don’t have to be from Purdue. letters of recommendation can be from any alumni you know, they don’t have to be relatives.

Double-check the legacy policy of the sorority you're aiming for, as a handful of them have changed. Some sororities no longer give legacies special treatment, which is a change that was only made during these past couple months.

being a legacy doesn’t mean a ton, it can have a slight influence but nothing more than that. it nowhere nears guaranteeing you a bid anywhere

Some houses dgaf so don’t assume it’s an automatic bid/drop. I believe a few nationals of sororities at Purdue have decided to forego legacy benefits anyways because it discriminated against people who don’t have family in Greek life.
