Since the middle tier is so broad, it only makes sense to split it in two because the houses in the upper and lower mid are nowhere near the same & this is how most people see it, both srats & frats.
top: (aphi, kappa) chi o, dz, pi phi
upper mid: tri delt, axo, dg, theta (zeta)

bottom: gphi, agd, sdt

I see where you’re coming from but all of the houses in the same line all go to the same functions like tri delt and theta. Not sure about the lower houses though but most of theta and above are all invited to the same frats
