sorority recruitment

by:

I know they are all different, but on average, how many girls does each house take during fall recruitment? Also, how many girls typically rush, and how many actually receive a bid? Thanks!

Every year there is a quota set by Panhellenic based on the number rushing and other factors. Most sororities take at least this many, and a few take more depending on their chapter size and how many empty spots they have.
Ex. Last year the quota was around 40 (which is pretty standard), and some houses went up to ~50 because they needed more bodies

There are exactly 37 spaces available in Kappa Kappa Gamma, 12 spaces available in Aphi, 67 spaces available at Theta, and an infinite amount of space at ZBT. choose wisely. Just don't join Zeta or you will have to go through the gang ba ng ritual

There are several factors that play into Quotas. Each house has a maximum capacity of live in sisters because of the house size and how many it can accommodate. 1. Depends on how many seniors will be leaving the following year 2. Depends on any active who is not returning to school. Because of transferring or change of education plans 3. Depends on how many have completely dropped whether during pledgeship or after initiation from the previous year

If there are 40 seniors ( typical pledge class size) leaving, the quota will be 40, BUT each house will add extra to make up for any that will drop . If there is a local Lafayette commuter girl- she’s a bonus - an extra member who’s not living in. Most houses require the actives to live in 3 years, but some get burned out by the time they’re seniors, so they quit or will have to deactivate- which in my opinion is so stupid. Purdue Panhellenic and each sorority should allow their seniors to move out if they want, yet still be required to participate. This will allow larger pledge classes and opportunity for more girls to join a sorority.

This is incorrect. That is an “open bed quota” system, like what they do at IU. At Purdue, we do a chapter wide campus quota. After final selections, Purdue gets an average number determined by the amount of girls going through rush and amount of girls currently in the chapters. This number quota is a minimum number ALL chapters MUST take. I was the head of recruitment, and the year I recruited the campus wide minimum quota was 38. This number has grown slowly over the years due to Greek life popularity. It doesn’t matter how many seniors leave. If a chapter has 40 seniors leave, but the quota that year is 45, they MUST take 45.

@No- your key words- ‘and the amount of girls currently living in chapters’. Basically you are saying the same thing because if a house can not fill capacity to ‘fill the beds’ how on earth do you think that sorority will stay alive on campus in the long run? It’s not going to fund itself. The respective National is not going to pour $$$ to a chapter that can’t sustain itself financially. If a sorority can’t fill their quotas, and it’s ongoing, that sorority’s National will come in and either recolonize by putting actives on alum status and start over with new pledges or they will yank their charter all together.

@No- oh and I never said it was solely based on seniors leaving. If there were 40 seniors leaving, the current new pledge class had 35 but only initiated 30 because 5 dropped- well the quota is already starting at 45.

You said quote “if there are 40 seniors leaving, the quota will be 40”
That’s flat out wrong. You are describing a bed quota system like “no” explained. If you were trying to say what they said, you did so extremely poorly.
