academic sororities?
by: fallA lot of my friends are rushing in the fall and I'm thinking about it too, but I think I'm a little bit more worried about studying than they are lol. Are there any sororities at Purdue known for getting good grades? Thanks!

As a sorority woman in engineering, balancing greek life and studying is going to be difficult wherever you go. Yes, some houses get better GPAs than others, but that doesn't mean that your performance will mirror the GPA of the house you're in.
College is a huge adjustment for everyone, especially academically. What it honestly all comes down to is YOU and YOUR time management skills. If you have a lot of homework or studying to do, you have to have the strength to tell your friends no when they invite you along to a Tuesday night PCP. Mom and dad aren't there to make sure you do your homework; if you want good grades you're going to have to earn them yourself.
As long as you have a balanced head on your shoulders, you'll do just fine. One of my best tips I can give is to look for study partners in your major, not your house. Studying with geeds is one of the best moves, as they party significantly less (meaning you'll always have someone who is free to go to Hicks with you).
Good luck with rush!

Some houses are known for going out more and tbh there's an unspoken peer pressure to party when everyone else in your PC is. NOBODY forces you to go out in ANY house but sometimes older girls will roll their eyes if the freshman PC aren't pulling their weight in maintaining their houses social rep.
I was a 4.0 student in HS but joined a sorority that's known for going out more. I barely scraped above a 3.0 freshman year. Obviously I have my ish together now and honestly idt I'm as easily swayed by fomo but trust me, some sororities party more than others and it WILL affect you.

During rush you should get a pamphlet with the house's gpas, but take them with a grain of salt. A lot of times houses have a higher gpa because more of the girls are in easier majors. For example, the house with the lowest gpa is actually the engineering sorority because their classes tend to be more difficult to get an A in. Good luck!

When I was rushing, I was really concerned about GPA because school is extremely important to me. However, I ended up in a house with a middle range GPA that is known for going out more than others and there are a lot of extremely smart girls. It depends on who you are. You make your own decisions. I have never been pressured to go out rather than studying. Academics are taken extremely seriously in our house even though we like to have fun!! We have many girls that are pre-med or engineering and KILLING IT. There will always be a few girls who aren’t dedicated to their school work in every house. But after being in a house, I’ve learned that some of the sororities have those high gpa’s due to cheating. Many houses initiate smart girls just do make them do the homework of other girls to keep their GPA high. Don’t listen to Greek rank or what other people say. Just find the girls you mesh with the best!
