SigEp faced a permanent ban:

"The Purdue Community Standards Board recommendation from the March 3rd hearing was "full and permanent revocation of recognition with no right of return as a campus organization". Through coordination and partnership with the University and National fraternity, that punishment was lessened to a period of up to 4 years suspension.

Anyone who knows the current Sig Eps knows they are being punished for the acts of the former Sig Eps. This is beyond ridiculous that they are being kicked off for much less than other frats do on a weekly basis. Worse things happen in the dorms. It shows that no GLO is safe. Purdue is not committed to Greek Life. Was Cutler brought her to end it? It does seem to be his track record.

The university suspended them for 2 years. Nationals said they'd support any university decision, but in the event of a suspension, they'd pull the charter for 4 years. That's why they're off for 4

sounds like nationals, the administration, and the IFC were working together:

Stefancic said, “Continued violations led to this serious sanction, which was affirmed by the national organization and the Purdue Student Organization Community Standards Board in consultation with the Interfraternity Council and the Office of Fraternity, Sorority and Cooperative Life.”

How bad was the hazing?

Pledges or what they call "Sigmas" cleaned the house. That's "demeaning" and "servitude."

Who would have reported the unregistered party and the "hazing" to Cutler's Crew?

Was a pledge dropped? Angry girlfriend? Social justice warrior? Some other org that wants the SigEp house?

"A sorority member put an incriminating picture on Instagram."

And . . . . then what? It's not like nationals or the alumni have people scouring sorority girls' Instagrams for incriminating evidence. I doubt Cutler's staff even monitors. And even if they did it would be pretty weak evidence of harmless stuff.

all it takes is for one person to point it out to an IFC or Student services employee. social media is the downfall of many a chapter.

OK, but that still requires a snitch and that snitch reporting to someone who has a duty to report it to some authority and does so.

So what happened here in this case?

Sounds like the administration (not IFC) brought the charges and nationals and the alumni supported them (rather than the chapter).
