chandler kania

I am a Biology major and know very little about the law, but I was hoping someone could explain this... So Chandler Kania has had two court dates and has another one in March. I know he has several charges filed against him, so why the wait? When does his trial start? This is a criminal trial, and I know he has at least two civil trials filed against him too. Will they take place later? He was in my freshman seminar and I still can't believe he did what he did. Is there any way he won't be going to jail for the rest of his life?
