are northerners welcome?

by: Yankee

Does a Northerner have a chance to pledge a sorority? Are there some sororities that are more accepting of Northerners and, if so, what tier are they?

No they don't care where you're from. The only thing is most fraternities and sororities when compiling rush list tend to be more preferential to people they were friends with/ are from the same place as them. But it's not like schools like Alabama if you get cut simply for being out of state

You'll get cut from KD and Chi O outright unless you have friends in the houses. Your out of state status won't be an issue at the other 9.

The Greek system at UNC is not like the Greek system in the SEC/South or some of the other big schools with outrageously competitive recruitment. Outside of the two mentioned above and a couple others, they're pretty open, especially if you're "hot" and like to party. Might be a little tougher if you're "not hot" and awkward (to be polite).

If your an out of state sophomore or transfer and don't know anyone in any house you really need to make sure to be memorable and personable otherwise you'll get dropped. If you're cute and make yourself memorable to whoever is rushing you you'll be fine anywhere minus KD and XO
