Does every PNM get a bid? Or are there some girls that don't get one at all?

I've heard from some people that everyone is supposed to get a bid but it doesn't always happen

If you max out your options (meaning you rank every house that you went to that day and don't suicide on pref) then you are guaranteed a bid

Why do people suicide? Like what is the benefit of doing that?

There is no benefit. The only reason to do it would be if you really hate one of the houses you have left on pref and would rather be independent than be in that house. However, the girls that do this risk getting a call from their gamma chi saying not to come to bid day because their suicide house didn't give them a bid (happened to someone I know last year). I would not recommend this at all; just go to bid day at whatever house you get and give the girls a chance

Yes, this can happened and is called a snap bid. If you drop recruitment or suicide and don't get a bid, a house that liked you and has room for you can offer you a bid on or after bid day

However, this year will likely be very different since Alpha Phi is colonizing. I doubt everyone will be "promised a bid" from one of the houses they have left if they maximize their options.

However I do agree that suiciding is a terrible idea. Rush tends to be a shallow process, but bid day is when you actually get to see people be themselves. If you get a bid to a house you weren't in love with during rush, go to bid day & stick around for a while to see what the girls are like outside of rush. There's no benefit to refusing to associate with a group of girls you didn't like during rush, but you might end up loving a house you thought you wouldn't like if you give them a chance.

This seems like good advice in a normal year, but how do we go to bid day and hang around for awhile to see what the sisters are really like when it’s all virtual?

it’s a weird year for everyone and remember the girls in the sorority REALLY WANT to get to know you guys too and are doing their very best to make it feel normal and get to know new members. that being said there will be specific events whether online or something just to get to know other girls. again, what’s the harm in trying to get to know them, ESPECIALLY now since everything is virtual; it really can’t hurt.

Is this still true? If i maximize my options after pref will i receive a bid from one of the 2 sororities i preffed at?

that’s not 100% true but most likely yes. if you don’t like your second house i would definitely suicide. because if your second house ranks you higher on their bid list than your first choice house, you will get your second choice.

To the comment before this: I thought putting both houses was still better even if you don’t like your second house because maximizing your options allows you to potentially be a quota addition to your top house. If you suicide, then you’re ineligible for quota additions (in case you’re not high enough on your top house’s bid list).

At least that’s how I thought it worked?
