zta

I have been wondering this ever since Bid day. I was flat out PROMISED a big from ZTA. On Pref night, I was told, and I quote, "If you rank us first, you'll get a bid - you're high up on our first bid list." So I did, even though I could have been equally happy in the other house I preffed. It felt good to be wanted that much. But I got my second choice (thank God because I love them!). Since then, I've talked to at least two other girls that had the same thing happen. I know this is considered dirty rushing. I'm considering turning them in - I have a text message from an active that I got on Pref night asking me what I wrote on my card. What should I do? Let it go cause I'm fine where I am? Or get them to stop doing this with the proof I have?

I meant to say I was promised a BID, not big!

I've heard the same thing. My suitemate had is happen to her. She was so convinced she'd be a ZTA (since they told her she was getting a bid) that she went online and ordered all this Zeta stuff after preffing there. She wound up in Kappa and wasn't happy AT ALL...but now it's getting better.

If she sticks it out in Kappa, she will be better off in the long run.

Definitely report if you have proof.

The text message is solid proof. I am glad you are where you belong with a great group of girls. This happens more than you think. They need people to speak up. I agree with what "you said it yourself" commented below. It is clearly troubling you. You have proof; speak up. Report it to the UNC Panhellenic site. Your conscience will be clear, and it will help them host an honest Rush with integrity. In the end, that is what is important. Panhellenic gets a bad rap because stuff like this continues unchecked.

By the way, a lot of people work really, really, really hard to host a good, honest Rush. The people who break the rules like this just don't belong.

You're in a house where the girls have integrity. What would someone with integrity do in this situation? I don't know about you, but I was raised to believe my word was a reflection of who I was. Will you be able to live with yourself knowing that this happened and you opted to do nothing about it? Covering for someone is aiding them to do this again, and some say is as bad as doing it yourself. This isn't middle school; playing "dirty" has no place in high school, let alone in college — or in the working world once you graduate. Will you sit back and watch a colleague steal from the company you work for once you graduate without saying anything? Because that's what Zeta did that night; they stole the honor of the system from you and every girl that preffed that night.

You are so right. I've texted my Gamma Chi and called my Mom who's an attorney. I know this isn't a legal thing, but she can give me advice about how to approach Panhellenic. I want to go about it the right way. She suggested calling Verizon and getting copies of my text messages from that night so it's not just me showing them my phone. Thanks for the kick in the pants

I am a Junior, and two years ago Zeta dirty rushed me. I dropped out and never rushed again. I feel like I was robbed of a Greek experience in my college career and you can't ever get that back. I for one would LOVE for them to get punished for this, and have sanctions taken against them. Maybe their Nationals would be interested in knowing how this Chapter has been operating. I know all of this is anonymous but I'd be more than happy to sign my name to a statement if one is ever brought forth. I'll keep my eye on the DTH for any news.

Scary stuff

I personally know at least 5-10 girls in the last year or 2 who have been blatantly bid promised by them. It's a problem that is only really going to stop if people speak up.

Absolutely stand up and tell Panhellenic. It's obvious from the comments that this is a continuing problem that needs to be addressed

The exact same thing happened to me last year, and it devastated me -- not because I didn't get zeta, but because they seemed so genuine and I truly believed that they wanted me. Please take action against this chapter, the way they go about recruitment is unacceptable. You and I are not the only ones who were promised bids by zeta, but hopefully we can be some of the last.

I heard back from my Gamma Chi, and she said the same thing that you all have said. She offered to go with me to meet with the VP of Standards - she oversees the Panhellenic Judicial Board. I'll keep y'all posted!
