junior rushing quotas

by:

I've been thinking about rushing a sorority as a junior, but I've heard mixed things. Some people have said I should be alright and have a chance at any house because of the new quotas in place, but others have said unless you know someone and have recs you won't get in anywhere. What is the truth?? Can you get a top tier house as a junior?

It honestly depends. If you know people in sororities it will definitely help you as a junior, but most sororities are interested in getting the most freshman they can and then sophomores to fill their quota. It also depends on which houses you're referring to; Top tier houses basically already know who they're giving bids to before recruitment even begins so getting into these houses as a junior is less likely, not impossible, but close to it. My advice is just to go into recruitment with an open mind and you'll end up with bid from somewhere!

Thanks for the advice! If you're saying they already know who is getting bids before the whole process starts, do you have any advice as to how to get on those lists?

If you have to ask how to get on these lists, you won't be on one. It's all who you know. The person who replied to your post initially was trying to be polite. As a junior, forget top tier and be happy with any bid. The most selective houses will NOT be choosing a junior unless you are mega legacy. If you can't have an open mind, you will be in for some major disappointment.

Okay, I appreciate that you were up front about this. Do you happen to know any sororities in particular who have a good track record of accepting juniors or who would be more open to it? I absolutely want to go in with an open mind, but I also want to give myself the best chance I can at getting any bids so any information is helpful.
