Rushing a Sorority as a Sophomore

by: uncrush

Is it harder to get a bid if you rush as a sophomore? Especially if you don't know many people in sororities?

Yes. Freshmen are most desirable but most sororities will take a few sophomores but not many

Yes, it might be harder but all chapters do take sophomores and generally there are fewer rushing so you’ll probably still get a bid

There's an upperclassmen quota so each chapter will be required to take a minimum of x sophomores/juniors/seniors. You got this!

It is in panhel bylaws to have an upperclassmen quota 5-10 slots per class I believe)

I joined my chapter as a sophomore!!! I will say that having friends in the sororities you’re interested in is really important (I realized just how true this is after experiencing rush on the other side). Most don’t have quotas for upperclassmen, and some take more than others. Knowing members might be less important if you’re super outgoing or are interested in Pi Phi or KKG (which are great chapters, just rush less based on connections!). Either way, definitely make an effort to get to know members before rush in the fall so that they can vouch for you.
