Round 3 cuts

by: Worried

It seems like there were a huge amount of cuts last night, are tonight’s cuts going to be just as bad? I’m wondering what my chances are of getting my #1 choice on my schedule tomorrow

there are going to be more cuts, your chances really depend on a lot of factors- whether you already know girls in that sorority, how well they connected with you (even tho convos are really short ugh), where you’re from, like so many things. Even if you don’t get your #1 try to remember the other sororities really did like you- they called you back three times, see what they’re about and if you aren’t sure, there’s always sophomore year/if you know someone they can recommend you get a snap bid :)

How many PNMs are left at the average top/middle tier house for round 3 and how many will be expected to be there for pref?

If i had great conversations but no connections I’m screwed? That really sucks

I’m so tired of girls saying that all that matters is connections. My mom was in a top tier sorority at UNC and I didn’t get in instead I went to another sorority who actually really appreciated me and I couldn’t be happy with the situation. It is not all about connections and yes some girls fall through the cracks but most sororities really don’t care about your connections I promise you and if you get the vibe that top tiers are dropping u because u don’t have the connections then so what good riddance top tier doesn’t mean anything

this is so true. i came in with not a single connection and joined what i guess some people consider “top tier” because i actually liked the girls and not bc they were “top” and i’m so much happy so it really all works out if you keep your mind open during the process

Your personal decision to not use your connection isn't evidence that connections aren't important. Girls often say "I didn't know anyone, I just picked where it felt like a good fit" without realizing (or admitting) that they met some criteria that the chapter wants. For ex, girls that are OOS and went to good schools are very attractive to top houses. Why? Bc they know that they're smart and will likely be a good asset academically for the chapter (for the chapter GPA) and for the chapter's overall image (OOS members are often wealthier than in-state, and often are involved in impressive internships/activities during their college career). For in-state girls, it is only natural that the girls who are from the biggest feeder areas (CLT, Raleigh, Durham/CH, Wilmington, & Winston argubly) and went to schools that members went to (probably private schools or best public schools) will have an advantage for today houses because the members have heard of them or know them, and the chapters know that these girls will have a lot of connections at the school with other freshman and other members of their PC, making them an asset socially. A lot of mid tier chapters tend to also prioritize these qualities in an effort to get "top tier" level pnms. So, you may think that you got into your sorority solely because you "fit" there the best, but it is far more likely that you "fit" because you met some criteria that was advantageous to the chapter's overall recruiting strategy.
