How does fraternity rush work at UNC

by:

I’ve seen a lot of messages on here saying “so and so got cut from there the same day I got cut from there the same day I did.” This sounds like sorority rush at sec schools. Do guys have to go to each house or how does it work and how do they know each kid individually like this kaelan dude. Why tf is there so much hype around him and his decision?

Those big 4 guys are so strange it’s like they worship him. I guess because he’s one of the only minorities that they ever let in.

Nah basically you just go to houses first night of rush and most will let you in when you say you are rushing. Some won’t, like sig Nu because they are douches (especially the blue haired one).
But if you know someone in any of them then start at that one.
Frat rush is all up to you and the frat. Unlike sorority rush

I’d like to say that’s true but it’s honestly just not. I’m currently a brother at one of the top fraternities at Carolina but that was due to sheer chance. I went to plenty of houses during the first night of rush nearly all of which rejected me at the door cause I wasn’t on any brothers contact list. I just so happened to run into one of my high school friends while walking through campus and got invited to one of their first events. Carolina Greek life is all about connections when it comes to the top and this is a commonly known fact if you’re a student here. Unfortunately, most people just don’t know that’s the case when moving in freshman year. Otherwise I believe our Greek system would be way larger

can’t rush a house if you don’t know anyone there. you can try and show up and get brothers numbers but that won’t work more than once. probably the worst thing about going to a state school. the in state kids would have totally different experiences out of state. UNC is a great school so it makes sense to take advantage of on state tuition.

I don't think this is true. Ppl in phi delt or beta for instance have gotten bids and are OOS without any connections. For instance, Daniel Ingram and James Dohlman didn't know anyone in rush and still got a bid to a big 4 frat. Jack Miller from Menlo, CA got a bid to Beta and there are barely any Cali kids or West Coast kids in any big 4 frats at UNC.

^ there must have been a connection even if it was a roommate of someone with massive connections or a family friend etc. knowing someone is a prerequisite to being put on the rush list. all of the N.C. kids would face massive cultural shock at an OOS school
