rushing as an out of state student? please help
by: km0449
I was recently accepted to UNC Chapel Hill and I plan on rushing a sorority my first semester. I'm hoping to get a bid to one of the top sororities, but I am an out of state student and I don't know anyone in these sororities. I went to a small private school in Georgia. I'm funny and friendly and in general a pretty cool person, and I think I'm pretty attractive. Is there any chance at all of me getting a bid if they like me during rush week despite the fact that I don't come from a NC feeder high school?
I'm asking mainly because I read a thread on another website that claimed it was impossible to get bids to any worthwhile sororities as an OOS student with connections or letters of recommendation.

First of all, please don’t go into rush with the mindset that you only want to be in a “top tier” sorority because each sorority is really great in their own way and you might end up being drawn to one you wouldn’t expect. Going in with that type of mindset will only negatively impact your experience. Second of all, being out of state has literally no impact on getting a bid anywhere. UNC is not like some of the deep south schools in that aspect so as long as you stay open minded you’ll be fine regardless of where you’re from, who you know, or how many rec letters you get.
