sorority rush as a sophomore

by:

Hi,
I’m considering transfering to UNC year and I was wondering what it’s like rushing as a sophomore? Is it looked upon as strange or are you less likely to get a bid?
I’m wondering if I should just rush at my current school and transfer in or wait until the fall and rush with all the incoming freshman. Any advice is appreciated!! Thank you :)

Don't rush this year. Unless every single sorority at your school is also at UNC, you run the risk of joining one that does not have a chapter here. It is also not fair to the chapter to join when you plan on transferring and not staying with them. Since most fall recruitments are over by now, I'm assuming your school has second semester recruitment, so you'd only have one semester with whatever sorority you join before you leave it. Sororities are also different on different campuses, so a chapter you fit in well with at your school may be completely different from the UNC chapter and you may be unhappy here. It's common for sophomores to join here, so you won't be at a disadvantage. Good luck!

"Transferring" eh? Why not get a semester of grades under your belt first?

I'd rush at your current school.

It's not strange at all. A lot of the girls who rush in the fall are sophomores, but it's mainly freshman. It doesn't matter. Juniors is where it looks kind of weird and girls are more likely to be dropped...i transfered too and i rushed as a sophomore. i actually know a lot of transfer girls in sororities! i would wait until you're here or rush there and see if the house you got into is one youd like here? idk how youd gauge that but yeah. hope this helps
