lying about your sorority?
by: curious
hi guys. When someone transfers universities, how can they verify that they were actually affiliated with the sorority they say they were? I mean, if your new school doesn't have your chapter, what stops someone from saying they are in a new sorority/fraternity and just forging everything? One girl told me she did this when Phi Mu wasn't offered at her new school. She just bought a bunch of KD stuff and forged the form etc...

Hi, @curious. Sororities are national organizations, so each sorority has a national membership data base and it's very simple to verify membership. We would check with our nationals, of course, to make sure that she is a sister in good standing before she affiliates. And if we found that she had lied to us and is not, things would not go well for her. We would, out of courtesy, let the other chapters on campus know what she tried to get away with so she couldn't do it to them either. And we would possibly also contact national NPC to identify what sorority she was initiated into and have them notified, and that sorority would have grounds to revoke her membership. So...not a good idea.
