What are the reputations of the larger, more well-known fraternities here?

Texting you to come over all the time does not indicate smaller, it means they want you. Time spent at your house means they aren't getting rushed anywhere else. Also Beta/DKE gave out less bids than Phi Delt btw.

Does that mean that Beta and DKE are doing spring rush? I know Phi Gam and Phi delt arent.

To #2. I agree that if they text you over and over it means they want you, and it's a compliment. But some houses go way overboard and it comes across as desperate. Pika texted me several times a day last fall even though I had never been there once and finally I had to text back that I wasn't interested. The texts kept on coming and it gave me a bad impression of them. The houses I was actually rushing were way more deliberate with their texts and calls. I had more respect for that.

Is it better to join a mid or even lower tier frat in the spring or hold out for one of the better ones in the fall? I hate to lose my whole freshman year not being Greek. But I also don't want to get stuck with something I regret

If you're so worried about tiers, join a sorority instead

Who cares about reputation, find a group of brothers who you like and fit in with. As the guy above said, if you won't join somewhere because of reputation then just join a sorority.
