my experience

by: Ally

PNMs,

Wanted to give you my experience. Excuse typos. Not going to proofread and am typing on phone.

There were 10 houses when I went through recruitment. I was so excited and nervous at the same time. I wasn't a legacy anywhere, but I had letters of recommendation for DDD, Pi Phi, XO, ZTA, & PM. I am blonde, thin, and extroverted. I thought I'd have my pick of houses. For 98% of you, recruitment will give you a big dose of reality and will teach you humility; I know it did for me. Very, very, very few PNMs have a perfect rush (meaning they don't get cut by any house the entire time).

After Open House, my top 2 houses were ADPi and AXO. There were only 2 houses, ZTA and SSS that I didn't see myself in. They are both good houses, but I didn't feel my conversations there were as strong as at the other houses. I also wish ZTA's house had a better yard, although the double portches were a plus. I anguished over which house to list as #8. Seriously, don't anguish. As listed above, 98% of you will get cut from at least 1 of your top houses, so your #9 house will end up back on your card the next round.

Continuing story in comments.

Before Skit Round, I was looking forward to a full card of houses. What my Gamma Chi (who is your life line btw) gave me was jarring. I only had 5 houses. I could not believe I was cut by half the houses, including my 2 favorites, after the first round. I was devastated, but after talking to my friends, I realized I was lucky, or at least about average. Some had a full card, while others only had 2-3 houses.

I decided to change my attitude, and give my remaining 5 houses (DDD, KKG, PM, PBP, SSS) a shot. The skits, although a little corny, were entertaining as heck. It was great to see the sisters having fun. My connections continued to blossom at 4 of the 5 houses, and I was rejuvenated in my desire to go Greek.

House tours was my favorite round. I loved getting to tour 4 houses. I had been cut by DDD which shocked me as they double rushed me (2 girls talking to me at the same time). I really wish DDD and XO had kept me through house tours as their houses are stunning. I digress. Getting to tour my potential future homes was so cool. Pay close attention to the houses if you think you may ever want to be a live in sister.

Now came the hardest decision of the whole recruitment process. I knew I had to list my top 2 houses. #1, Phi Mu, and #4 SSS were easy, but I really struggled over #2 & #3. I felt connections at Pi Phi and KKG. Pi Phi is "better" than KKG in terms of ranks, but I liked KKG's house better. My conversations at both houses were great, but there was 1 connection I made at KKG that stood out to me above other conversations, so I ranked KKG #2 and Phi Phi #3. Please be clear, I could have been happy at Pi Phi. Absolutely no negative words against the sorority. It was truly a personal preference. Really the moral of this story. Vote your heart, no matter the rank.

For pref round, I got my top 2 choices! I floated on air to pref round. I knew, no matter what, I'd get a bid. The ranking choice this time was very easy. I loved Phi Mu, and was really hoping they'd love me back.

Bid Day was one of the longest days of my life. I felt the reveal would never come. I loved the Gamma Chi reveal too.

Bid Day is deafening btw. The active's are screaming and chanting at the top of their lungs. Well, when could finally open our bid cards, I was elated to be a Phi Mu!

Although they were not my favorite after the first round, I trusted in the process, and I ended up joining a sorority I love.

Trust the process, DO NOT DROP OUT, vote your heart no matter the rankings on this site, and you will have an amazing set of friends/sisters for life.
