sorority rush from a graduate
by: GradOkay y'all, now that I am a grad student and effectively unemployed, I have the time to give my two cents about this whole Greek Rank thing. First of all, once you graduate, the "tier" of the sorority you were in becomes completely irrelevant. What truly matters is the person you are and the character that you have. Furthermore, the bs reputation a sorority has tends to be untrue, as some of my closest friends were all from different sororities and are all equally as awesome. Lastly, when selecting a sorority, look at the girls in it and not its perceived reputation. Ask yourself, are these the people that will make me a better person? Are these the people I can see being best friends with? Some of my friends selected a sorority because it was "top tier", and they ended up regretting their decision immensely. I am also going to add that basing a sorority's "status" off of attractiveness is just precipitating an outdated patriarchal system that I think needs to change. To me, the quality of a sorority depends on the quality of the people, its involvement, and it's sisterhood. When I rushed, that's what I looked for, and it has honestly helped make these last four years some the best years of my life. Choose well and wisely. Good times. Go Heels!!!

Love this! I'll be a senior and am already dreading graduating and leaving my sisters. I was a legacy to a top tier and got cut (probably because I'm from OOS and didn't go to high school with them - they seriously have their pledge classes figured out before school even starts). I'm happily a member of what people would consider a mid tier house and have truly found my home.

Love love love this! I haven't been on this site in over a year because I've been disgusted by how hateful some people are. I'll be a Gamma Chi (rush counselor) this year so I decided to check it out again to see if PNM's are hanging out here. This advice from a graduate is the best I've ever seen and I plan on reading it to my group on day one. (But I'm not about to tell them it came from GR - I don't want them reading some of the other crap on this site!)

OMG yessss. Seriously I remember my rush counselor (I think they were called rho chi's my year) mentioned Greek rank to us and they were like "don't believe anything you read on it". So naturally a ton of girls went home and read all the crap on here out of curiosity. Good on you for not even mentioning it, because girls WILL come look at it if you do.
