Here's the honest truth: they are stuck up as hell. I knew a girl that joined and had to pay for the sorority on her own. She tried so hard to get the "right" clothes or hang out with the "right" group of Sig Kaps. It's all a competition. Half of their girls are upper middle class stuck ups and the other half is high school mean girls who peaked too early.
