rushing/letters of recommendation

by:

So I already filled out my formal sorority application but didn't even bother to get a letter of recommendation because I didn't know too much about it. 1. Will that hurt my chances?? (MOST CURIOUS)
2. Can I still get one?
3. Who would you get them from?anyone? Or someone Greek ?

Uh they only get you to first invite so idt they're that important. But if you want one, you need to ask an alumna from that house. Like say you want theta, the person writing your letter would have to be a theta who has graduated fr college.

Some houses I didn't get asked back to for first and I had a letter. So for some houses I don't think they care at all if you have a letter.

1. As far as I know, recs can only help you. Lots of people don't have them so not having them won't count against you. But it's still nice to have them because it gives houses a lot of information on you and they can look out for you during rush.
2. Yes.
3. You have to get them from greek people that's the point... The way recs work, you get them for a specific house from alumna of that house. For example, if your friend's mom was a Delta Gamma, then she can write you a rec for Delta Gamma. So if you're looking to get recs, I would start reaching out to your friends' moms and have your mom reach out to her college friends/coworkers/etc and ask if they were in a sorority. If you like particular houses, you can be on the lookout for alumna of that sorority. And you can also go to your local panhellenic council to find alumna, but since it's U of I, I would just try to find people who actually know you because recs aren't super important like they are in the south.

my mom legit made a facebook post about it and I got like 11 letters of rec. So that's one way to do it. I don't think letters are a big deal though.

I'm going to have 4 letters of rec, honestly don't think it's that important but doesn't hurt. Basically gives houses some background info on you because the recs have all your activities and stuff on them.

I am from out of state and didn't know anyone at Illinois before rush. I had recs for 13 or 14 houses before rush. I am kind of quiet so I'm sure the recs helped me. After the open house I was asked back to every one I had a rec for (except I had recs for Theta and tri-delt and I don't know if I would have been asked back. I put them both at the bottom of my list because I just knew I didn't fit in either of those houses). I went to pref parties for 3 houses I had a rec for and ended up in a middle tier sorority. The girls are awesome and I've been really happy there.
