I agree, I will be rushing next year and was wondering the same thing. It is kind of scary and intimidating esp. when people that seem to be smart and pretty get dropped from most houses

every sorority is different and recruits different types of girls, just because someone is pretty doesn't mean that the girls in the house think she will fit in with the other personalities of the house, for example. The thing to remember during recruitment is to keep your head up and not think like "oh i got dropped because people don't like me". no, thats not it. They have a 5 minute conversation with you (after talking to potentially hundreds of other girls that day) and have to make a quick choice whether or not they see you fitting in with their house. It is truly a crazy process and while I ended up in the perfect house for me, I know others weren't as lucky and some people may realize after the process that a sorority just isn't for them. It's definitely a nerve wracking process, but it is easily the best decision i ever made at u of i

It's very hard to get dropped from all chapters in the first round. It's usually because a PNM's grades are terrible or she is obviously just there to mock recruitment (yes, there are a few every year). In later round, some women get dropped, but it's usually because they decided they were too good for some of the chapters and skip parties to which they are invited. If you get invited, for example, to 9 chapters you love and 3 you hate in the second round, and you only go to the 9 you love, you may get dropped everywhere.

next year and am wondering how much it costs to be in a sorority. Are some houses more expensive than others If so which ones and what determines one being more than another?

they are pretty expensive, expect new member fees to be around $1000, but then after that theres just a semester fee anywhere between like 350 and 500 for some of the sororities, plus it costs money to live in the house

Generally Girls go after these houses (in no order):
Theta, DG, G Phi, XO, AXO, A Phi, DDD

IF they are cut from these they usually hope for:
KD, KKG

IF they are cut from those... they end up here
AGD, AD PI, PHi PHI

IF they don't get any of those.. most settle for....
A O Pi, DZ, SDt

IF NO ONE WANTS THEM still..
A E PHI and Alpha Xi Delta

IF STILL no one wants them they are reverted to
Sigma Kappa~ the most non selective sorority on campus, randoms,

Question: IS that based off of looks?

There are differences in overall attractiveness of houses for example Theta is more attractive than Phi Phi. But, overall it is on personality. Each house is like a different taste (minus the bottom ones.. they are very non selective) or flavor.
Theta- known as shy-ish, nice, plain
DG- A little stuck up,
DDD- knows how to party
G phi- Cute but can get crazy
XO- Quirky, funny girls
AXO- GIrl next door
A Phi- Snobby

ect. just to name a few traits

Rush is about how normal you are, how well you can hold a conversation, how cute you are personality and looks, if you connect with girls in a house ~ which is usually if you get into a great conversation
