I heard recommendations for rush help a lot but who are girls getting their recs from? Does it have to be someone in the house or can it be anyone?

you can ask family, friends, neighbors (basically, people who know you) who are members of a sorority to write a rec for you. So if you know someone in Alpha Alpha Alpha, she can write a rec for you even if she isn't from the same chapter of the sorority.
