It is not the top houses anymore. Some people declared a group of houses "royal" many years ago and the houses still hang on to the title. The sororities in the group are probably still true to the "top houses" but not fraternities. 1 of the 3 (beta) got kicked off, another one (ato) is definitely no longer considered by anyone to be a top 3 house. The top 3 houses are almost unanimously considered:
-pikes, SAE, and sigma chi
The royal bar crawl means nothing anymore. It's just a historical social event.

The Royal Bar Crawl is for insecure try-hards who have to wear a t shirt to assert their "dominance" yet if it was truly so the general populous would already know who's top dog.

the crawl consists of house perennially known for being "Top Tier" for decades on end.

Sigs
Taus
Thetas
Tri Delt

A few years ago it actually meant something but since the top house have changed for the most part (ATO,Sigs, and DG falling off) its more a thing of tradition

It's an event where douchebags run from bar to bar talking about how they are better than everyone else while most of them are in houses which are no longer top 3.

I think it will end within the next few years, as it is already embarassing for ATO to declare themselves a top house publicly, as shown by the double bicep sharpie tattoo boy
