pm and chi o?

by:

Hey ya'll, I'm a legacy at Chi O from my sister and PM from my mom (neither went to UIUC though), can anyone give me the details of these houses? I know PM is new, do they even have a house yet?

You are not a legacy, since they did not go here. But you should check out both sororities, totally different but that's good because you have options. Just join wherever you fit in, and check out the other houses as well.

I'm really confused then...I went on the nationals website and it said that I still count? What counts as a legacy the? Only if your mom was in that sorority at that school?

It doesn't really matter much at UofI anyway, but since your relatives did not go here, there is no family history at those houses at UofI. If they went here, they could send a letter to the alum board who would send it to the recruitment chair. Unless it's your mom's school you honestly are not doing yourself any favors worrying about it. Be yourself and you will find the house that fits you the best :)

P.S. Both of those houses have something to offer and I recommend visiting them, but I wouldnt make the "legacy" thing a factor.

Just go in with an open mind! Wait until you go through recruitment to check out all the houses, you don’t know who’s on this site whether it be catty girls, rude guys, or simply people who are anti Greek life. Both of those houses have nice, fun girls and yes PM does have a house.

don't listen to whoever the other commenter is it doesn't matter which school they went to. Yes, you're a legacy for both xo and phi mu as long as your mom and your sister initiated. I'm not in either house but that's how all panhellenic sororities are.

Yes phi mu has a house. I don't want to skew your opinion of either house but you'll find out from this site that chi o is a middle house and phi mu is a bottom house for rank. Phi mu hasn't been around long enough to have established a reputation yet so i couldn't tell you much about the girls. Just know that there are going to be both negative and positive things said about every single house on this campus. Everyone has an opinion. Around pre-recuirtment and during recruitment people will post negative ranks on pages of the houses that they find are their main competition to their own.

Rank matters for social purposes and if you're the type of person that cares what other people think of you, try to join a house that's middle or top. If you don't think you'll be effected by rank or don't care then join the house you feel most comfortable in. I know plenty of girls in upper middle and top houses that dropped their houses because they wanted a top house but didn't like any of their sisters and were miserable. Trust the process

Not arguing with anything else that was said. Technically you might be a legacy, I was just trying to say that it will not carry much weight if it is a different school and it definitely does not guarantee membership.

So OK, strictly speaking you are technically a "legacy". But now that we have resolved that, put it completely out of your mind because that will not help you choose the right house for you, and no one at this school knows your mother or aunt.

The other advice given was very good, so I think we are all on the same page. Good luck.

^ this is true, i know that there are policies for certain sororities though that make them automatically have to get a bid if they get to a certain round. this doesn't mean that she won't be dropped by either house but it can help after a certain point in the recruitment process

but lol yeah the fact of the matter is that there are too many sororities that rush mostly girls that they already know from high school or have some connection to because that's just how it is (not necessarily a bad thing but can be frustrating for people who don't know people at this school already) so since your sister and mom didn't go to this school being a legacy isn't going to help until later rounds. also the reputation of a sorority at our school is going to be loads different than the reputation of phi mu and chi o at other schools so don't take what your sister/mom are saying about chi o and phi mu and think that it's going to hold true for uiuc too
