by: maryanaHow does the freshmen recruiting process work for sororities?

Freshman cannot rush until the spring and have to go through formal recruitment. You sign up in dec/jan and in february there will be either one or two weekends devoted to formal recruitment. You will go through rounds and tcnj does it based off of mutual pairings. So the first round you will go to rooms of all 8 sororities and at the end you will rank your top 6 and the sororities will pick the girls who they want to come back. If you put down a sorority that does not mutually pick you then you do not go back to that room. You can go back to potentially 6. THen you do the same thing and visit the rooms that called you back for 20-30 mins and rank your top 4 and then visit the rooms that called you back for an hr. Then you will pick your top 2. If you get called back to any of the 4 it is called preference night and it is an hr long ceremony. THen after your pref night you will pick out of the two which one you would want to receive a bid from. This is a mutual pairing process so after each round you are not guaranteed to get asked back by any sororities and even if you get preffed by two you are not guaranteed a bid, however that is very rare unless you suicide on preference night which means out of the two sororities who preffed you, you say that you would only accept a bid from one and if they don't offer you a bid you don't want a bid at all. It is a very long and stressful process but everyone ends up where they are supposed to be as long as girls go in with an open mind
