what makes a sorority top tier?

I see a lot of rankings for sororities (and frats for that matter) on this website and I really don't understand how people decide what org belongs where. It always seems to me that the same people who say XYZ is top tier are also saying how awful XYZ is. I know rankings really don't matter, but i'm just wondering if anyone knows how people come up with them

Usually when people are ranking sororities they're thinking about how pretty, sociable, and fun they are. Also depends on who an organization associates with. Someone might also think about philanthropy, grades, etc but not so much on here.

its all superficial things that one person decided a couple of years ago and is only relevant during recruitment when insecure freshman join orgs that they think will make them "be cool"

It's all superficial. Anyway don't stress, when you get on campus you'll meet them all, it's a small school you'll pretty soon get a feel for most of the orgs
