During recruitment, you will be asked by a couple of chapters, not ALL these questions:
How much do your parents make?
What kind of car do you drive?
These are the questions you will get from superficial chapters. Do not be afraid to ask how much dues are and what your financial obligation will be but the second you get asked those questions.. Run.

Since all they have to do is type your home address into Goggle Maps and see a picture of your home, I doubt such questions will be asked by any organization having any degree of sophistication. But here are some good responses though:
Q: How much do your parents make? A: I don't know.
Q: What kind of car do you drive? A: Why are you asking? or Do you not have cars? or Are you looking for members to drive you around? (Even if you drive a BMW.)
I am sure others can come up with better.

anyone who would ask something like that does not come from money. if they have it its brand new money. that is a sign of insecurity and they think asking someone a question like that will make them superior because it gives the illusion and makes their fantasy of being well of come true to the outside

After thinking about this a little, if asked such an uncouth question, a person could assume that they had been assigned one of the more socially clumsy active members -- with the more impressive actives assigned to what that sorority deems to be higher valued PNMs. In other words, that group is not trying very hard to impress the person being asked and they really don't care what that PNM thinks about them.

Looking poor? Joining any social fraternity or sorority does require some level of conformity, the degree of which depends upon the particular group being joined. A PNM should be mindful of this; be herself; and, more importantly, be honest about whether or not she can (or will) fit into that sorority. She should also quickly learn to "play the game" of sorority recruitment. The Greek Chat website has more information about the clothes to wear, recommendations, and selection than the typical Texas State girl will ever need. If you think you may fall into the category of "looking poor" and there are many, many of us that do. We all must sooner or later learn how to "play the game" of giving our best impression. Joining a sorority or fraternity is pretty good experience for this.

This really does happen. Questions like these are asked every year and don't ask me why because my chapter doesn't ask those questions but when I rushed I know that when I was a PNM girls were being asked these Qs
