sorority dues
by: $TxState$$$How much are each sororities dues? I's like to rush but I'm not sure if it's in my budget.

You need to ask each chapter during recruitment because they have changed a little because of housing etc. But in the recent past zeta and axid were the highest dues, about $ 2,700-3,000 a year down to chi o which was about $1700 for a year.
You need to keep in mind though first semester is always more because thee are fees you won't have to pay again. And once the chapter invests in a house or has a bigger one it means higher dues. And you will have other costs not included in the dues for a variety of things.

I don't mean for this to come off as rude in anyway because finances are sometimes tough for me, but if you go into recruitment only looking at which sororities fit your budget or because they're "cheaper" chances are you're not going to be placed in the houses that's right for you. Every sorority has some sort of scholarship available to apply for, and after your first year, dues decrease significantly. If you really want to find a house you fit but you can't afford it this semester, I'd strongly encourage you to save up and wait until spring to rush.

^I see nothing wrong with wanting to know how much each house cost. I do not think it is smart to join a sorority if you cannot afford it. It is called living with in your means . Let say there is two houses that I really like and I see myself being a sister at both house , if one is $2000 and the other is $3000 then I will be joining the one that is $2000. Scholarship are only awarded to a few people and only cover a portion of the fees.

^^you could always call the Panhellenic office and ask for estimates. But I agree, if $100 is too much, I wouldn't advise going through rush. Many times, girls who have to fund their own dues end up quitting because the costs become too much. People easily forget that the monthly dues does not cover date parties, formals, t-shirts and other sorority paraphernalia which can quickly add up.

This year dues and fees are being given to PNM's at Orientation before the days of parties start so that girls will have an idea of expense. It's no fun for people to have to quit a sorority because you can't afford it. Not for the sorority or for the girl. Panhellenic has that information and it's not a secret.

The problem is that you don't have a choice no matter what panhel tells you about the mutual selection myth. If you're not high enough on the cheap chapter's list, you won't get it.
